What this site is, where the data comes from, and how to read it.
refDB is a reference database for hockey officials — referees and linesmen. Search any official to see their career history: every league and season they’ve worked, game-by-game logs, milestones, and how they compare to their peers. It covers everything from junior leagues up through the AHL and NHL.
Most leagues on refDB are sourced from HockeyTech, the official statistics provider many junior and professional leagues use to publish box scores and game reports. NHL data comes from the NHL’s own public API instead. Every game page links back to the original source gamesheet where one is available.
Coverage varies by league and era — older seasons or smaller leagues sometimes have gaps in the source data itself (missing box scores, unrecorded penalty minutes, etc.), which carry through to refDB rather than being estimated or filled in.
