refDB (“we”, “us”) publishes a public reference database of hockey officiating records — games, leagues, and career stats sourced from publicly available game reports. This policy covers the personal information we collect from people who create an optional refDB account, and how we handle it.
The officials whose career records appear in the database are not the same as registered accounts. Most officials listed on refDB have never created an account and are not otherwise contacted by us — their information here comes from public game records, not from them directly, unless they’ve chosen to link an account to their own profile.
The entire site — search, official profiles, leaderboards, game pages, everything — works with no account at all. Creating an account is only needed if you want to link your own official profile, flag a duplicate record as yourself, or report a missing game.
If you create an account, we collect:
There is no password to create or remember — signing in works by emailing you a one-time code. We don’t ask for or store a password. We also don’t collect payment information; refDB doesn’t charge for anything.
We don’t use your information for advertising, and we don’t sell it to anyone.
We use a small number of service providers to run the site. Each only receives what it needs to do its job:
We don’t share your information with anyone else, except if required by law.
If you sign in, we set one cookie to keep you signed in for up to 30 days. It’s used only to recognize your account on future visits — it isn’t used for tracking or advertising. Google Analytics separately sets its own cookies for all visitors to measure site usage; see Google’s privacy policy for how that data is handled.
We keep your account information for as long as your account exists. Sign-in codes expire after 10 minutes and are never reusable. A record of past requests (link/merge/game-attribution) is kept as a history even after a decision is made, the same way we’d keep a record of any other change to the database.
You can ask us to see what information we have about you, correct it, or delete your account entirely, at any time. Email whosreffing@gmail.com and we’ll take care of it.
refDB isn’t directed at children, and we don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
